White Plains Hospital Maternal-Fetal Medicine Awarded AIUM Ultrasound Accreditation

White Plains, NY. – The White Plains Hospital Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Department is pleased to announce its re-accreditation in Obstetrics and Detailed Fetal Anatomic Survey from the Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

This special certification indicates the Hospital’s adherence to nationally recognized standards in the performance and interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, notwithstanding its commitment to clinical excellence and the highest quality patient care.

“Our maternal-fetal medicine department is committed to providing only the most advanced care to our patients, and this accreditation is one part of that,” said Dr. Caroline Stella, Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine for White Plains Hospital.

The MFM department achieved this recognition by meeting rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. All facets of the practice were assessed, including the training and qualifications of physicians and sonographers; ultrasound equipment maintenance; documentation; storage, and record-keeping practices; policies and procedures to protect patients and staff; quality assurance methods; and the thoroughness, technical quality and interpretation of the sonograms the practice performs.

A subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine experts are skilled in the complex treatment and care of expectant mothers and unborn babies considered at high risk. This care may include prenatal testing and genetic counseling, including include obstetric imaging, 3D/4D ultrasound, perinatal consultation and preconception counseling.
