White Plains Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Michael Palumbo Receives Westchester County Health Commissioner’s Award
White Plains, N.Y. (March 31, 2023) – Michael Palumbo, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President at White Plains Hospital, was recently awarded the 2023 Commissioner’s Award from the Westchester County Department of Health during the County’s Public Health Service Awards ceremony held on March 30.
Dr. Palumbo was selected for the Commissioner’s Award for his leadership and collaboration in vaccinating, testing and compassionately caring for Westchester residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. In announcing the award, Westchester County Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler, MD, said she especially appreciated Dr. Palumbo’s wise counsel during difficult times, and for the way he went above and beyond to heal and protect our community.
“I am humbled to receive the Commissioner’s Award,” Dr. Palumbo said. “Caring for our community is our sole mission, and I am proud to share this award with the entire White Plains Hospital staff, who provide exceptional care to our community every day.”
Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Palumbo joined White Plains Hospital in 2005 as the Founding Medical Director of its Adult Hospitalist Program. In 2009, he was named Executive Vice President and Medical Director, and in 2018 was promoted to Chief Medical Officer. He is a Board member of the Hospice of Westchester, as well as Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, where he also serves as Chairman of the Performance Improvement Committee. Prior to joining White Plains Hospital, Dr. Palumbo practiced primary care and he earned his medical degree at the Boston University School of Medicine.
