Respected Surgical Oncologist Mark Gordon, M.D. Joins White Plains Hospital Physician Associates
White Plains, NY – 1/2/2013 – Dr. Mark Gordon, a recognized leader in the surgical treatment of cancer, has joined White Plains Hospital Physician Associates, a division of the hospital aligning local physicians with hospital services.
Dr. Gordon has served as a voluntary staff member at White Plains Hospital for nearly 25 years and is currently the Surgical Director of the Hospital’s Dickstein Cancer Treatment Pavilion as well as Chairman of the Hospital’s Cancer Committee. He is an expert in the treatment of many types of cancer including breast, colon, skin and soft tissue tumors, pancreatic, and thyroid cancer. Dr. Gordon has earned the reputation as an exceptionally skilled surgeon who works closely with other members of the oncology team to develop and execute a care plan that is precisely designed to meet the needs of each individual patient. Dr. Gordon also routinely performs surgery for benign conditions including hernia, benign breast disease, hepatobiliary (gallbladder), gastrointestinal, and thyroid disease. He is board-certified in General Surgery.

Dr. Gordon received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed his general surgery residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center, now known as NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center. He followed this training with a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. His accomplished academic record includes service as an Instructor in Surgery at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and later as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cornell University Medical College.
Dr. Gordon is a longstanding member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is the lead author of the largest series of chest wall sarcomas published to date, as well as an author on numerous scholarly articles and chapters in surgery. Among his most important work is a study of the use of tumor markers in the evaluation and monitoring of patients with pancreatic cancer.
